Here is the April 1994, El Paso & Southwestern Flyer as Edited by Charles P. Zlatkovich. The article of the month was on the history of El Paso & Southwestern #1. At the time of this articles writing the locomotive was still at the Centennial Museum at the University of Texas at El Paso Campus. Let us take a look at the Southwest Chapter El Paso & Southwestern Flyer and the article by Charles Zlatkovich on El Paso & Southwestern #1.
Below is an advertisement that appeared on page 12 of the October 15, 1909 edition of the El Paso Times. This advertisement promoting the progress of the southwest uses El Paso & Southwestern #1 as the reference point. Interestingly the “now” was a locomotive built in 1903. Also interesting is the statement that number 1 was purchased in 1888. El Paso & Southwestern #1 was placed on display 0n August 4, 1909. The impact the locomotive was having on visitors was already being recognized by the El Paso Community then.
Today El Paso & Southwestern #1 is located on the first Floor of the Union Plaza Transit Terminal at 400 San Antonio Street. Unfortunately from the street the locomotive is difficult to see and the building is no longer regularly open. Photo by Robby Peartree.
Here is the same photo as above treated with filters to try to expose the locomotive.
Here is the historacl plaque associated with the locomotive.
